The new MacBook Airs are available in two flavors the 13.3” model which is the same size as the prior models and the newest size – the 11.6” version. In addition the old school platter hard drives have been replaced with SSD (solid state drives) meaning that there are no moving parts found within the machine. These new laptops run OS X Snow Leopard like current Macs but are now housed in a machine that weighs just 0.7 lbs more than the iPad. The redesign combines features of a Macbook line with some of the functionality of an iPad. Besides discussing their upcoming OS X version – Lion, they also revealed a refresh of their MacBook Air line of laptops.
This past week Apple held their “Back to Mac” event to remind people they still make computers. In other words, you probably won’t regret buying it, but make sure an alternative doesn’t suit your needs better. However, its battery life is merely on the good side of average it doesn’t match the power of its other components and that beautiful screen with a decent graphics solution and its high price means there are plenty of rivals which offer more features – sometimes even for less money. Even connectivity is superior to that offered by most ultraportable laptops. It’s beautifully crafted, offers great ergonomics, and its ‘Retina’ screen is simply superb.
